In Vietnamese, we use the result complement xong (“done”) to indicate completion.
Structure
Place xong after a verb.
verb + xong
If the verb has an object, xong can come before or after the object.
verb + xong + obj.
verb + obj. + xong
In general, the first structure is better if the object is relatively long. Otherwise, both are good; however, if the verb-object connection is strong, like đánh răng (“to brush teeth”) or rửa mặt (“to wash face”), the second structure is better.
